Today the ACT Government and Ginninderra Little Athletics Club were present to receive the keys to the recently refurbished Pavilion at Charnwood District Playing Fields (Belconnen). The project included a complete overall of the Canteen Area, two new change rooms and showers, storage areas and toilet facilities.
The new pavilion further enhances the facilities at Charnwood Oval for athletics training and competition. This latest investment builds upon significant facilities development in the provision of safety discus cages, full-sized jumping pits, easy-lift hurdles and timing gates already available at the Oval.
This welcome work further demonstrates the ACT Government’s support for Athletics in Belconnen by enhancing Charnwood Oval’s reputation as the premier facility for amateur sport in the north of Canberra. In the last two years the Government has invested over $500,000 in Charnwood Oval including restoring the field and now giving the pavilion a much needed facelift. The project gave a much needed lift to a building that has had little attention since it was recited in the 1970s.
In the coming weeks the Tigers can expect to use the new Pavilion increasingly to make use of all the new amenities available to the club.
