Inclusive Participation Funding for Athletes with a Disability

On Friday it was announced that Ginninderra was one of 13 organisations that will receive funding to support inclusive sport and active recreation opportunities in Canberra.

ACT Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry, announced $80,000 in funding through the 2016 Inclusive Participation Funding Program (IPFP). The Tigers were lucky to receive funding for our Enhanced athletic access for athletes with disabilities and older athletes program.

The primary objective of the IPFP is to increase participation opportunities in sport and recreation for the identified target populations.

This upcoming Little Athletics season beginning in September Ginninderra will provide mixed running races so Hearing Impaired athletes can compete seamlessly with able-bodied runners using electronic timing equipment that when fired would set off the LED light boxes for deaf athletes as well as fire a cap simultaneously.

Ginninderra will also invest in throwing equipment for Para Athletes including seated throwing stands, throwing balls and associated storage racks.

The equipment purchased will be available to athletes and coaches for training and competition alike. Allowing athletes to get a feel for real world conditions at their local community athletics club.
