Frequently Asked Questions – FAQs

How old do you have to be?
Your child must have turned 5 before the 31st of December next year and hasn’t turn 18 before the start of our season. If your child is 5 or 6 years old, they can join our Tiger Cubs and younger siblings (3 or 4 years old) can join as Tiny Tigers.

Note: Proof of age is required for all new athletes (i.e. those not previously registered with a LA ACT affiliated centre).

How can I register?
You can register online, via email or at one of our registration days during September. We also accept mid season registrations after Christmas.

What does it cost to join?
One child costs $140 for the whole season, nothing more to pay, we also offer family registration discounts. We accept credit card, cash or cheque payments.

When do you hold Little Athletics?
We compete most Saturday mornings between October and March each year, starting at 08:30am in the morning (Under 4 to Under 8) and we normally finish by 9:30am. Older age groups (Under 9 to Under 17) start at 09:30am and finish by 10:45am at the latest.

Where is Ginninderra Little Athletics Club situated?
You can find our oval just off Lhotsky Street in Charnwood. About 400m from the roundabout at Florey Drive and Ginninderra Drive.

What’s it like?
Of course we believe it is wonderful, but why not look at the video and photos of the kids and decide for yourself!

But seriously, Ginninderra is a family friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It has a supportive culture and we nurture every girl and boy, regardless of their ability or their desire to run like Bolt or play another sport.

Social Athletics
Ginninderra offers a range of social activities from playing background music, Club Mascot, fun days (relay carnival, highland games, Australia Day Gift), social media (Youtube, Facebook and Twitter), Tiger Cubs, Tiny Tigers (tiny tots), movie nights and more.

Do I have to live in Belconnen?
No, Ginninderra membership is open to anyone who is eligible to compete in the ACT. Contact us for more information.

Training and Coaching
If you would your child to get some help in a particular event, we offer training during the week of an afternoon throughout the season. Training is provided at no expense to club members and is not compulsory.

Can we miss a weekend or two?
Yes of course, there is no requirement that your child competes every weekend. When they do compete, they receive a ticket for each event that they can stick in their Little Athletics Book. When they have obtained a certain amount of tickets, they are presented an achievement badge in front of the whole club. We make a big deal out of it.

Do you ever compete at other venues?
Yes, there are 3 or 4 LA ACT organised events which are normally held at the AIS in Bruce or Woden Athletics Track, these are usually held on a Sunday and our normal Saturday competition is usually unaffected. Athletes can also choose to visit another Canberra Little Athletics Centre at one of their Carnivals and Ginninderra also makes a non-compulsory road trip to Sydney at the beginning of the season.

If you travel interstate for holidays you are allowed to compete at another Little Athletics Centre. Remember to take your uniform and registration number with you.
