Subway Goodsport Award

This Season, Ginninderra Athletics has partnered with Subway Charnwood to provide one Goodsport Award for the most deserving Boy and Girl in each Age Group every week.

The Goodsport Award will be presented to the Athlete who goes out and beyond in the support, encouragement, determination and exemplification of the ideals of Family Fun and Fitness at Ginninderra Athletics.

Tigers who receive this award will have shown the best of behaviours, showing the best of the Club, that week in their age group.

Subway Charnwood will provide in exchange for the award certificate a Subway Six Inch Sub of the athlete's choice.

Athletes names will appear in the Goodsport Hall of Fame displayed at the Canteen and one lucky Athlete's personal story will be posted on Facebook to accompany their award.

Join Ginninderra Athletics this season and enjoy the Subway Inclusion Program each week with the Tigers.

Jeremy and Jacob join Australia’s best at National U15 Camp

In October each year, Jetstar Little Athletics Australia (LAA) holds an annual National U15 camp over four days at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra. The camp is a great opportunity for athletes to be coached by some of Australia’s best coaches, and to receive expert training and education in a range of areas, both practical and theoretical.

Today LAA announced the 98 athletes who were selected to attend the Camp from the 1st - 4th October 2017. Among the four athletes from the ACT were Ginninderra's own Jeremy Maranan and Jacob Davill.

Jeremy was the 2016 ACT team captain at the Australian Little Athletics Championships where he won a silver medal in the 100m and his team mate Jacob also medaled with a bronze in the 800m. The boys are joined by their ACT compatriots Tarcia Collins (Gungahlin) and Charlotte Kalozi (Goulburn) at the Camp.

Jetstar LAA selects the highest performing athletes in each event nationally. Offers for attendance are based on performances at each State’s Track and Field Championships. Selection is by invitation only and is at the discretion of the Jetstar LAA National Camp Organising group.

The athletes will receive coaching from some of Australia's best coaches and receive expert training and education in a range of areas including strength and conditioning, recovery, nutrition just to name a few.

Winter Fun Runs have started

The University of Canberra Ginninderra Athletics Club have commenced the 2017 Winter Cross Country Series on Lake Ginninderra each fortnight.

Every Cross Country event isn't measured by the amount of Personal Bests someone gets, it is also gauged by how it can be just as much fun for everyone doing it.

The Tigers' Fun Run course starts and finishes at the idyllic Waterfall on Lake Ginninderra. The route loops itself in a figure eight around John Knight Memorial Park and the UC Bushland near Ressies with good views of the Roos of UC.

There are many undulating sections with grass, bike path, the odd muddy dirt trail and some small water jumps to enjoy along the 1.5km, 2km, 3km, 4km and 5km distance of your choosing. For the older runners doing 3 to 5km the course repeats itself to double up the challenges in the second half of each route.

Winter Cross Country is as close as you can get to Playing at running.

The course with its different elements allows imagination and creativity to take place, and there is no particular rules and no significant physical exertion for fun and self-amusement necessary.

The next Cross Country fun run is on the 29th April 2017 starting at 8:45am at Lake Ginninderra and the first Run_ACT Winter Junior Series is on the 7th May 2017 at Stromlo Forest Park. For more information visit the University of Canberra Ginninderra Athletics Club for all the details.
