Ginninderra Athletics welcomes you to the 2017-18 season. This is a truly unique year for the Club and Athletics. For Ginninderra Athletics it is one of transition. Over the coming season we will work more closely to transform Ginninderra Athletics into a single organisational body consisting of members from Tiny Tots right through to Masters. This will take a year to plan and then next winter to implement. In between that time the seamless integration will remain and we strongly encourage our older members to dual register with UC Ginninderra Athletics Club.
For Little Athletics it is also the last season where the existing Age Groups will operate as they have been. From the commencement of the 2018/19 summer season, athletes born between October and December will bypass one age group in the progression from the age group they were in in 2017/18 to be in the same age group as those athletes born between January and September in the same calendar year. Under the current system they would have been in the age group below those athletes born between January and September. All athletes will be competing with athletes born in the same calendar year. This aligns with many other sports and other athletic bodies. There will always be ‘younger’ and ‘older’ athletes within any given registration period. This change is being implemented across Australia and Ginninderra Athletics will work with affected members over the season to understand the change before it happens.
Ginninderra Athletics was recognised last season by winning the inaugural Minister for Sport and Recreation’s Award for Innovation at the CBR Sport Awards ceremony held at the National Arboretum. Among the nominees were the Touch Football ACT and Tennis ACT associations and the CBR Brave Ice Hockey team. This is a momentous accomplishment and a significant compliment to the work of the Committee and our members. This season the Club is not resting on its laurels and plans are already underway to increase participation and assist members by involving Interns from the University into the operation of Ginninderra Athletics.
In 2017-18 we also welcome new training opportunities during the week with Under 6s to Under 8s invited to a Monday gross motor and team based learning program similar to Tiny Tots called On Track. Our Master Athletes aged 25 years and over also get their own run of the field on a Monday afternoon too. The Under 9s and Under 10s will be offered skills development sessions by experienced athletes from UC Ginninderra Athletics Club on a Tuesday. While all other members will still receive the best of support from our qualified and accredited Coaches by booking through MyTraining.
The Club has also continued its tradition of investing in Charnwood Athletics Field with the construction of new permanent shade shelters with the support of the ACT Government.
This season we also welcome new Team Managers, Junior Coaches and Captains to the Club. Please make them feel welcome.
We wish to welcome our new sponsors for the season, and welcome back those who have supported us in previous years. All of our supporters are listed in this booklet. Their generous support helps make Ginninderra a great club.
As always, running our weekly program requires assistance from many volunteers. With your help, this season will be an enjoyable and healthy time for both the athletes and parents.
Have a fantastic season everyone.
