Territory Tigers represent State with Pride

The 2017 Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC) was held in Sydney on 22nd-23rd April. The ACT team was captained this year by Ginninderra's very own Bec Guest.

Rebecca was joined on team ACT with her Tiger mates Alice Fraser, Austin Tetteh, James Lemon and Harry Francis.

Some fantastic and memorable performances by everyone. Just to make the National Championships is a feat in itself and to be counted in the top 16 in their chosen events is marvellous.

Highlights from the two day competition include Austin's 5th placing in the 200m Final and his three Personal Bests (200m, 400m and Long Jump). Austin was also a member of the State 4x100m team.

Rebecca ran a sizzling final leg in her 4x100m Relay Final to finish 6th and only just getting pipped for 5th by 0.04s. Bec's 400m was a gutsy run and almost broke her PB.

Alice made massive improvements in Sydney with big throws in both the Discus and the Shot Put.

Harry came away with two new PBs in both of his Hurdles events and was only 0.1s outside the Club Record in the 200mH.

James made the top eight in his 1500m Walk and ran a PB in his 800m Final clocking 2:20.68.

Winter Fun Runs have started

The University of Canberra Ginninderra Athletics Club have commenced the 2017 Winter Cross Country Series on Lake Ginninderra each fortnight.

Every Cross Country event isn't measured by the amount of Personal Bests someone gets, it is also gauged by how it can be just as much fun for everyone doing it.

The Tigers' Fun Run course starts and finishes at the idyllic Waterfall on Lake Ginninderra. The route loops itself in a figure eight around John Knight Memorial Park and the UC Bushland near Ressies with good views of the Roos of UC.

There are many undulating sections with grass, bike path, the odd muddy dirt trail and some small water jumps to enjoy along the 1.5km, 2km, 3km, 4km and 5km distance of your choosing. For the older runners doing 3 to 5km the course repeats itself to double up the challenges in the second half of each route.

Winter Cross Country is as close as you can get to Playing at running.

The course with its different elements allows imagination and creativity to take place, and there is no particular rules and no significant physical exertion for fun and self-amusement necessary.

The next Cross Country fun run is on the 29th April 2017 starting at 8:45am at Lake Ginninderra and the first Run_ACT Winter Junior Series is on the 7th May 2017 at Stromlo Forest Park. For more information visit the University of Canberra Ginninderra Athletics Club for all the details.

2017 Age Champions

The Club Awards are presented to little athletes at presentation day. Athletes must have competed in at least 25% of the total number of events planned for the season to be eligible for the main awards. Every child who is registered at our Club, and who does not receive a ‘special’ trophy will receive a participation medal at the end of the season.

Champion awards
The Club champions and place getters in each age group are worked out by awarding points for performances in each event competed in during the season. Gold, silver and bronze trophies are awarded to the top 3 athletes in each age group, ie those with the highest overall point scores. Points are awarded based on performance levels achieved on a weekly basis.
