Ginninderra Athletics raises the bar for Community Sport

On the weekend, Ginninderra Athletics played host to the Community Sports Gala Day with the cooperation of the Belconnen Community Service, UC Capitals, Brumbies, Brave, ACT Netball and the University of Canberra Athletics Academy.

The day was a huge success with 23 teams representing schools from all over Canberra and Yass participating in the Primary Schools Team Challenge.

The Gala's patron was Cameron Crombie, Ginninderra's very own F38 Para Shot Put World Champion and World Record Holder. Cameron was instrumental in helping to raise much needed funds for schools.

Over $4500 was raised and it was distributed in the form of sporting equipment vouchers from Hart Sport to the first three place getters in the Boys and Girls Primary Schools Team Challenge. All monies raised went into the running of the Gala Day including providing free community activities.

Ginninderra Athletics would like to thank the generosity of the event day sponsors Audi Centre Canberra, Kidspace Occupational Therapy, LGR Productions, Capital Clinic Physiotherapy, The Smart Centre Massage and Rehabilitation, and Hart Sport.

Our next Community Event is the RU Ok? Grass Games on the 8th of December 2018. We look forward to hosting everyone again soon.

The last Athletics ACT High Noon meet for winter 2018 was held on the 16th September at the AIS. This High Noon meet included All Schools Trial events (Steeplechase, Long hurdles (200 & 400), Pole Vault and Hammer).

Ginninderra Athletics was well represented in the 100m with Csenge Keszei (13.44s) easily winning her 100m, meanwhile the boys all did well too with Hayden Todd (13.28s), James Lemon (13.43s), Jeremy Maranan (11.79s), Mark Rossiter (11.66s), Spencer Cox (11.88s) and Caleb Joliffe (12.88s) all enjoying the fast conditions.

In the 300m, Matt Walters (35.77s) ran superbly as did Steve Hocking (37.65s) in the non-standard sprint event.

The 1500m event featured James Lemon (4:41.83) who was second fastest overall and fastest in his age.

Harry Francis (29.74s) ran well in his 200m Hurdles to finish second.

Jacob Todd (6:54.29) did a great job in winning the 2000m Steeplechase.

Jeremy Maranan (5.53m) won the Long Jump handsomely on his first jump.

Stephen Fraser (44.79m) continued his dominance in the Discus with another big throw in the lead up to the ACT All Schools Championships this month.

It was in the Hammer throw though where Stephen Fraser (41.68m) beat his own club record of 41.22m showing what fine form he is in at the moment.

Hayden Todd (56.75s) was just outside the club 400m record held since the 1987/88 season of 56.14s. Chloe Edwards (1:18.62) did well in her first AACT High Noon comp for the season too. Mark Rossiter (54.12s) was the fastest in the men and closely followed by Spencer Cox (57.07s).

In the 200m Mark Rossiter (24.61s) was the fastest of the Ginninderra athletes with Harry Francis (25.55s), Caleb Joliffe (25.87s and new PB), Chloe Edwards (33.33s and third fastest woman) and Hayden Todd (26.68s) all backing up well following their earlier performances. Mark had a fantastic day doing the treble of the 100m, 200m and the 400m on the same program. Great effort!
