The premier event of the NSW Athletics Calendar was held on the weekend at Sydney Olympic Park. Among the hundreds of talented athletes competing for their clubs were some of Ginninderra's best including Edward Nketia, Vivian Williams, Augustine Nketia, Nicholas Donaldson, Jacob Davill and Austin Tetteh.
Edward and Vivian lit up the track in the Open Mens 100m with Vivian running a very fast 10.83s in the Heats to narrowly miss the final. Edward continued his outstanding season with another stand out performance in finishing narrowly second to Jack Hale by 0.01s in the final. Edward's time of 10.36s is a new club record in the Under 20M.
Another of the Club's Record Holders Jordan Gusman took out the Men's 5000m Final winning in 13:29.47 beating race favourite Stewart McSweyn by 3 seconds.
Ginninderra was also well represented at the NSW Junior Championships with Augustine Nketia finishing 3rd in the U17M 400m in 49.44s - a new U18M Club Record. Augustine also ran very well in the 200m to finish with 23.79s.
Austin Tetteh ran splendidly in the U17M 100m making the final with a time of 11.32s - a new Club Record. Austin backed up on the Sunday and ran 22.94s in the 200m final to come home with a silver medal.
Nicholas Donaldson wasn't to be outdone also making the U18M final running a new Personal Best of 11.64s.
Jacob Davill ran strongly in the U17M 800m final finishing with a time of 2:01.34 to come 5th overall - a new club record.
Overall some great times in Sydney and all is looking good for UC Ginninderra's assault on Nationals in March.
The 2018-19 NSW Masters Championships was held at Sydney Olympic Park (SOPAC) on Friday, 8th February to Sunday, 10th February 2019.
Ginninderra was represented at the Championship by Club Record Holder Caleb Joliffe. The NSW Masters Champs was Caleb's first interstate athletics event and his first major meet part from the annual Athletics ACT Championships.
Running his fastest times for 2019, Caleb did very well by dipping yet again under the 8 second mark for the 60m sprint. Caleb ran away with a bronze medal in the 60m and a silver medal in the 200m. A great result for the Ginninderra Flyer representing the club and the ACT at the NSW Championships.
- 200m - Caleb Joliffe (2nd) - 25.42s
- 60m - Caleb Joliffe (3rd) - 7.97s
Ginninderra's members go far and wide to look for competition and that is no different to the 2019 NSW Country Championships held in Newcastle on the Australia Day weekend.
Rebecca Guest competed for the club in the Under 17 Women's 200m and 400m. Rebecca made the final of each event where she managed to run very well in the extreme heat conditions, that made at least one race postponed 5 times before it was officially started.
A full wrap-up of Rebecca's performances follow. Congratulations Bec on a great meet.
- Rebecca Guest (4th) - 1:01.90
- Rebecca Guest (7th) - 27.36s
Little Athletics NSW have announced their team for the annual Trans Tasman series against New Zealand. This season four Ginninderra Athletes have made the team.
- Joe Whithear
- Claudia Todd
- Ella van den Heuvel
- Ema Vermeulen
This season's cohort are the only ACT-based athletes to make the NSW team. That is incredible given there are 36,000 registered Little Athletes in NSW. Congratulations to their individual coaches Brian Daly and Faye Todd respectively.
All four Ginninderra Athletes recently represented the ACT at the School Sport Australia 12 years and under National Track & Field Championships in Melbourne where they achieve some fantastic performances.
The team will compete in the Trans Tasman Challenge, to be held on Sunday, 13 January 2019 at the Campbelltown Athletics Stadium.
The Trans Tasman is for athletes in the U11 and U12 age groups, from both NSW and Auckland. Every second year, a team from NSW (boys and girls in both the U11 and U12 age groups), travel to Auckland for the Trans Tasman Tour. On alternate years, a team from Auckland travels to Sydney.
Ginninderra Athletics has had a long history with this event and we are so excited to welcome 4 more talented athletes into our Trans Tasman alumni.
