The Ginninderra Little Athletics Club "Tiger Cubs" are what we affectionately call our Under 6 Boys and Girls. Tiger Cubs participate on a Saturday morning (starting 08:30am) at our Oval at Charnwood in Belconnen throughout the season.
Tiger Cubs are a very friendly, fun and interactive group. Children learn the fundamental athletics skills, whilst hanging out with their friends in small groups of 8 or less.
Saturdays, 8:30am - 9:30am
Beginning at the start of the season until Christmas, Boys and Girls undertake the Tiger Cub On Track program, which introduces children to the necessary skills and athletic events. On Track lasts for about 15 minutes.
Tiger Cubs encourages parent/carer involvement and the On Track program requires parent participation with the small Tiger groups as they undertake each easy non-stop 5 min activity. The Tiger Cubs Coordinator, Jeremy Walker, is there every Saturday morning to help welcome the children and guide/introduce parents to Little Athletics.
Along with On Track, children may choose to participate in small groups of no more than 8-10 athletes, enjoying a 50m sprint, a little long jump, throwing the vortex and much more.
The Start Times for this season are:
- Tiny Tots - Under 8s: 08:30am
- Under 9s: 09:30am (warm-up 09:15am)
- Under 10 - Open Age: 10:00am (warm up 09:45am, walks 09:30am)
New Year Holidays
After the Christmas Break, Tiger Cubs follow the full Saturday program of events, but still move around in their small groups of 16 or less children.
Where do I find the Tiger Cubs?
Our Tiger Cubs always participate at the southern end of Charnwood oval, closest to the Discus Cages off the roundabout entry at Lhotsky Street. Athletes gather at the Canteen at the beginning of each Saturday before proceeding to their first activity.
How old do Athletes need to be?
A Tiger Cub in 2016-17 must have been born between March 2012 and October 2010. Any children born earlier than these dates can come along and have a look at our Tiny Tots program.
Tiger Cubs can print and colour their own drawings and bring them along to Charnwood each Saturday morning.
